Moving Day for the Martinis (1:03:46)
CLOSER LOOK: Can you spot the various animals that make cameos as the Martinis pack up their belongings and head for Bailey Park? Some are more obvious than others. First, there is the Martinis’ goat, which bums a ride with George and Mary. Check out a concerned Donna Reed taking firm hold of the goat’s horns after realizing that they pose a serious health threat to the little girls in the back seat! (1:04:26)
Two other animals also get a lift from the Baileys. Keep your eye on the third Martini daughter as she climbs into the backseat—she has two puppies tucked under her arms. (1:04:20) Also appearing in the scene is a dog, some rabbits (in a cage on Mr. Martini’s truck), and a rather sad-looking turkey, which can be found in the box that George carries out of the Martinis’ house. (1:03:52)
RANDOM THOUGHTS: We’ve always thought that Bailey Park was an outstanding name for a baseball stadium. And the same would go for Potter’s Field, were it not for the fact that the term potter’s field means a field that is used for burying the bodies of indigent and unidentified persons. That being the case, Potter might just as well have named his development Potter’s Cemetery!
JUST WONDERING: The Martinis seem like a great family, but how are their pets—particularly the goat—going to go over in the suburban environs of Bailey Park?
FILM ANECDOTES: If the scraggly hills of Bailey Park do not exactly remind you of rural New York State, it’s because the scene was filmed in the foothills outside Los Angeles.
